Installation

Log files created by web servers don't include information on screen resolutions, color depths, languages and Flash versions. However, it is possible to install a special tracking code on the pages of your site so this information will be written to the logs and WebLog Expert will be able to show statistics on it. The code also allows the program to recognize prefetching requests of some browsers and report them as spiders.

1. Copy files wle_tracker.js and wle_tracker.gif into the root of your site (right-click each link and choose the "Save Target As..."/"Save Link As..." command to save the files).

2. Place the following code in the pages of your site:

<script type="text/javascript" src="/wle_tracker.js" async></script>

The script requests the wle_tracker.gif file with additional parameters. These requests are logged so WebLog Expert can analyze them to generate the reports. As the script loads the image but doesn't show it, it won't affect the design of your pages. You can place the script either in the <head> or <body> part of the HTML code.

3. Enable the "Use tracking code to add more data to log files" setting in Profile Properties > Log Files.

4. Tables and charts on screen resolutions, color depths, languages and Flash versions are disabled by default, you can enable them in Options > Report > Contents or Profile Properties > Report > Custom report contents ("Visitors" and "Browsers" categories).

  Older Versions

WebLog Expert 7.3 and older supports a simpler version of the tracking script that can be used to report screen resolutions and color depths only. Newer versions of the program also support this script so you can continue to use it if you upgrade from an older version, while the program won't show information on languages and Flash versions in such case.

Note: the new and old versions of the script use different names of the script and image files.

1. Copy files wlexpert_tracker.js and wlexpert_tracker.gif into the root of your site (right-click each link and choose the "Save Target As..."/"Save Link As..." command to save the files).

2. Place the following code in the pages of your site:

You can place the script either in the <head> or <body> part of the HTML code.
